The Samsung X-EYE is a game console developed by Samsung. It is Samsung's first game console and will serve as the competitor to Gamecom's GigaCom and Megadream's Super Gamer consoles.
Console
A typical X-EYE is roughly half the size of a computer CPU. The console features a disc tray for the discs, four LED indicators for checking the controllers' connectivicity status and the power and open buttons. Four USB slots are also included for USB devices. There are two SD card slots in the game dditional memory
The X-EYE has a built-in camera near its left side which can be used to take pictures and save it on the SD card. Besides taking pictures, the camera can also sense motions done by the player. The motin-sensing camera control scheme can be used in some games such as in the pack-in game X-EYE Olympics.
Controller
The controllers for the X-EYE are wireless and use Bluetooth technology to connect to the console. The controller resembles a Sega Saturn controller and features four face buttons (labelled X, Y, A, and B). a directional pad, an analog stick below the d-pad, the Start button and four shoulder buttons (labelled L+, L-, R+ and R-). The controllers require a special module (collectively called a Control Pak) which, when inserted to a controller, would grant the player control for Player 1, 2, 3 or 4. Without the Control Pak, the controller would not work. These controllers use four AA batteries. The console comes with a battery charger for the controller's batteries. USB cords can also be plugged in these controlers, allowing for classic, wired gameplay.
Media/Distribution
The X-EYE uses Blu-Rays for the games, just like the PlayStation 3. Games can also be downloaded from Samsung Apps LIVEPLAY, a PSN/XBox Live-like internet service. Credits for the LIVEPLAY store are presented as "LIVE points"
, and can be funded by a bank account or by LIVEPLAY top-up cards.
