He was born in March 22, 1888 in Prizren, Serbia.  His father served in the Serbo-Bulgarian War and he wanted to become a hero like his father.  In 1901, his father and mother died from a sickness which made him an orphan.  In 1903 at the age of 15 he joined the Serbian Second Army, he said he was 18 to get inside.  He got promoted to Sergeant for saving another Private's life during a skirmish for land.  In 1908, he was sent to Bosnia to help stop the Austro-Hungarians from annexing Bosnia.  He served in the Italo-Turkish wars to help the Italians gain more land.  He then was sent to Major Zupan's Platoon.
