Project Cross Tag Battle X is the sequel of BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, in this installment the game ceases to be part of the BlazBlue franchise to become its own saga.

The game is a crossover beetween different franchises, most of them related to Arc System Works with some exceptions. All the franchises are: BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Persona, Under Night In-Birth, RWBY, Arcana Heart, Akatsuki, Senran Kagura, Granblue Fantasy, Dengenki Bunko, Melty Blood, Fate, Kill la Kill, NieR, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear, Touhou Project, Azure Striker Gunvolt, Tales Of and Akame Ga Kill, some series has the name of the most recent installment (Arcana Heart LOVEMAX SIXSTARS!!!!!! XTEND, Senran Kagura Estival Versus, Under Night In-Birth Exe Late: cl-r, etc). Also some sagas are all putted in the appartment of "Guest Franchises".

Gameplay[]

The gameplay is relative similar to the gameplay of the prequel. A 2-on-2, 2D tag team fighting game in 2.5D stages, both players can switch beetween characters in any moment, also both characters has different life gauges. We still having the five button inputs: A is a light attack, B is a medium/strong attack, C is the Clash Assault, D is the Sweep Tag and P is the Partner Skill (an Assist button).

The mains resources in the game stills here, the Skill Gauge (for super moves), the Resonance Gauge (for the Partner Skills and Resonance Blaze) and the Cross Gauge (an special gauge who works like an passive gauge for the Resonance Gauge). But we also have new mechanics such like the "Burst" a "combo breaker" ability who can be used pressing the 4 main buttons at the same time and consumes the Cross Gauge (needs to reach the Level 4).

The simples motion stills here, most of the DP moves can be used only pressing the A and D buttons at the same time, most of the moves only requires using half circle motions, also the C versions of the moves usually are "EX" versions who consumes 1 Lvl of the Skill Gauge. The Distortion Skills can be used pressing the B and C buttons at the same time and performing a half circle motion.

The "Smart Combo" and "Passing Link" mechanics still here too. Generally the crouch B works as an anti-air, the crouch C works as an sweep and the forward B works as an overhead.

When you only have one character left the P button actives the Resonance Gauge, when the RG is active you are allowed to cancel Skills to Distortion Skills (which are also boosted or even altered in some cases), recoves health and most importantly, if your Cross Gauge is in Level 4 your Skill Gauge can surpass the Lvl 5 and get the Lvl 9 when your opponent has only one character left too you can use the Instant-Kill like move called "Astral Skill": cinematic moves that completely annihilate the opponent regardless of their amount of life. If you miss the move your Resonance Gauge is deleted and your Skill Gauge depletes.

Modes[]

  • Episode Mode: Such like in the prequel, the story of the game It is narrated through episodes, each one dedicated to a specific franchise. The story of the game is absurd, nonsensical, not taken seriously, has narrative holes and many things end up leaving out of nowhere, again like in the game. At the end of the day the "Story Mode" is rather an excuse to see the different characters interacting with each other in different (and often funny) scenarios.
  • Arcade Mode: Depending on your results during the fights, you will be alternating between different routes, the simplest being the shortest and the most complicated being the longest.
  • Versus: Play the classics 2v2 matches either against the CPU or against a friend.
  • Survival: Fight against the CPU in battles with difficulty they escalate until you lose. You will "level up" as you progress and in every 20 levels you fight against improved versions of the characters (they generally have infinite Skill Gauge, although some have other more or less notable changes). By beating one of these improved versions you will receive as a reward a boost in some "statistic", be it in your strength, your resistance, your life, your recovery or in some cases you can receive special things like starting battles with a Skill Gauge level. or always use the Distortion Skills in their improved versions.
  • Online: Fight against players from around the world, you connect to a lobby as a plump chibi version of a character according to your choice to interact with the rest of the players and enter into combat.
  • Training: This mode is divided into 3, on the one hand is the Practice mode in which you can be redundant to practice different combos in various situations as you wish, apart is the Tutorial where you can learn from the basics of the game to learn advanced tactics You can also receive specific tutorials for each character where their abilities, skills, pros and cons are explained as well as some basic combos (and not so basic). Finally there is the Challenge mode where you put to the test what you learned in different combats where certain requirements are asked of you (win without being damaged, win using only one character, dodge a Cross Skill, etc).
  • Options: Configure the game, you can change the voices of the characters and the narrator, configure the sound of the game in its different sections, alter the difficulty of the game, the visibility of the HUD, among others.
