A while back, I was requested to review a racing game. That being said, I'm gonna review one of my absolute favorites.
Oh, and sorry for not being her for, like, a while. I had some stuff to take care of.
- Name: Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing
- Publisher: Sega
- Developer: Sumo Digital
- Platform: Nintendo DS
- Released: February 23, 2010
- Genre: Racing
- Players: 1-4
- ESRB: E
When I was a little kid, I was obsessed with a video game mascot named Sonic the Hedgehog. I would try to watch and play and own anyhing Sonic-related. Years later, I enjoyed a racing game featuring Sonic, his friends and enemies, and other popular and obscure Sega icons called Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.
Since I played the Nintendo DS version, the graphics for them were not perfect, but they were still cool. All of the familiar areas and characters look right, and their vehicles are just awesome.
The racing itself is spot on for the most part. The gimmicks within the racing, like air tricks, wheelies, and drifts, enhance the experience along with th power-ups, one of which is your Super Move. The thing that pisses me off is that you only get access to it when you're in last place, which means you'll need to purposely suck at the game to get it.
Since it was the DS version I played, the developers couldn't get real OSTs like in the console version, so they remixed them. Let me just say that it was a smart move, as the music is actually very good.
There's also a nice batch of unlockables, which boast the words replay value. There's a lot of icons and ranks to get, and I wasted a lot of hours getting most of the accomplishments. I love a game that offers a very high replay value, to be quite honest
- Graphics- 8.6
- Gameplay- 9.7
- Controls- 9.3
- Sound- 10.0
- Entertainment- 9.5
- Replay Value- 10.0
Final score and final words
And the results are.......................
For quality family fun, I recommend getting the console version. Nonetheless, this should be the perfect game to get for more than just the hardcore SEGA fan.
